Turning wastewater telemetry into operational signals

A cloud data pipeline brought sensor events, historical alarms and operational indicators into a more usable monitoring view.

01 / THE CHALLENGE

What needed to change

Wastewater operations generate large volumes of telemetry and alarms. Without a consistent pipeline, it is harder to interpret sensor history, spot unusual patterns and give operational teams a reliable view of changing conditions.

02 / THE APPROACH

How the solution was shaped

The documented design used Azure and Databricks pipelines with PySpark to process telemetry and historical event data. Delta and Parquet storage supported the data flow, while anomaly and flatline detection, maintenance flags and summary tables made signals available for Power BI views and alerting.

03 / PRACTICAL VALUE

What this makes possible

The case shows how data engineering can connect raw equipment signals to operational questions: where attention may be needed, what has changed over time and which patterns deserve investigation.
